USAID and Fulbright Project:
Managing India's Forests for Biodiversity and Human Well-being in the Face of Global Environmental Change

As a Fulbright fellow, I'm worked with ATREE (the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) on three different projects within their greater USAID project. While the Himalayas helps sustain 1.4 billion people and is one of the global hots spots for biodiversity, little is known about how community livelihoods and forests will be affected by climate change. Therefore, I'm collaborating with over a dozen people to analyse and publish data on human and wildlife conflicts, adaptations to climate change, and science policy related to the Himalayas.

Long Island Sound - Island Management Plan:

Fishers Island Land Trust has perserved over 15% of Fishers Island (located in the Long Island Sound in New York). However, the land trust needed a management plan in order to remediate and monitor their protected landscapes. I worked alongside another Yale FESer to create remediation, management and monitoring programs for over 250 acres of their preserved properties. Afterwards, we presented the results to local community, which detailed the management actions the land trust needs to take to control invasives and protect native species on Fishers Island.

National Science Foundation REU:

Colorado is experiencing a large spruce beetle outbreak, but relatively little was known about how its main host, Engelmann spruce, was affected by the outbreaks. Therefore, I cored and analyzed over 1000 Engelmann spruce trees with a team of graduate students to study how the relationships between Engelmann spruce resin ducts, radial-growth rates, and spruce beetle infestation in Northwestern Colorado. The research was supported by the National Science Foundation REU, University of Colorado’s UROP, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Biosciences Grants.
